Photo Gallery: Fashion Designer Whitney Manney Shares Her Financial and Creative Journey
AltCap’s latest Secrets to Success event brought together members of Kansas City’s creative community for an inspiring evening with fashion and textile designer Whitney Manney.
The event was co-hosted by Tara Karaim, Senior Manager of Grants and the Community Gallery at ArtsKC, and moderated by AltCap’s Hunter Kapple.
Guests gathered at the ArtsKC Community Gallery, where they enjoyed bites from Graze & Gather KC, beer from Vine Street Brewing Co., and non-alcoholic refreshments courtesy of Cellar Rat. The evening was beautifully captured by Jack Kapple Photography.
An Honest Look at Creative Entrepreneurship
In an engaging conversation, Manney shared the financial strategies that have empowered her to work in her business full-time, produce fashion show collections, design for theatre productions, and collaborate with major names, including the Kansas City Royals, Peacock Network, and RuPaul’s Drag Race.
She spoke candidly about her fearless approach to seeking out opportunities and partnerships—never hesitating to reach out to businesses or individuals she admires. Manney emphasized that she never says no to an opportunity, even when there isn’t an immediate financial benefit, noting that every experience leads to another open door.
Addressing the challenges of mentorship, Manney shared her journey to finding national mentors to help guide her career. She also discussed her focus on developing creative direction skills to continue expanding her artistry and influence.
Building Connections and Community
Following the conversation, attendees participated in a Q&A and networking session — exchanging insights, ideas, and creative connections that embody the spirit of Secrets to Success, which is an event series that highlights local artists and creative leaders.
This series continues to celebrate and empower artists by spotlighting their stories, demystifying financial tools, and creating a space for collaboration and inspiration in Kansas City’s creative community.
